Format: Solo 90 Km challenge over one loop of Newnham Park's World cup standard race course, and neighbouring moorland, forest, quarries and bridleways. An update on the Newnham 90 for you - hope to see you there Mick Ives Provides Newnham 90 Warm Up The legendary Mick Ives will be providing a mini tour of Dartmoor as a warm up ride to the 2002 Newnham 90. Mick will lead a 'leisurely' 17 mile ride onto the moor with a 'refreshment' stop at a Dartmoor hostelry on Sep 7. The ride will begin at the Newnham 90 registration area at midday and costs £8 for CTC members and £10 for non members but best of all will be free for all Newnham 90 participants. Also on Sep 7 will be the Shred Short Track XC event with cash prizes, plus the pasta party with live music and a bar and also the chance to get a pre ride massage. All camping facilities will be located adjacent to the main registration/party area and there will even be the opportunity to try your hand at paintball on site. Newnham 90 entries are coming in thick and fast but there is still time to get your entry form in before the closing date of Sep 2, at the current rate of entry there will be around 600 participants. This will be the second staging of the Newnham 90 which mixes a blend of previous Newnham World Cup courses with moorland bridleways, forest road, singletrack and quarries to make an excellent route. The event is one of the few endurance weekends that is non competitive which brings a unique and enjoyable atmosphere with a high ratio of female participants. The event is supported by Freestyle Clothing, Shred Magazine, Bikemagic.com, Halfords (who will be providing technical support along the route) and HiGH5. ENTRY INCLUDES	On-site camping for Friday/Saturday, toilets, hot showers, a "quality T-shirt", live entertainment and party on Saturday night, parking, feed stations and halfway Cream tea. Thanks to singletrack for details For 2002, the route has been changed a bit from last year to include more singletrack but apart from that the 90km sticks with the 55km lap and extra 35km bit on the end for the fit. Around the main event though there are a number of other attractions. This year there's 'The Scrapheap Challenge' with 2 guys building a tandem on site on the Saturday of the event, made of old bits and then riding it on the Sunday. Last year they completed the event with bits of old motorbike in their creation. Also on Saturday, there will be a led ride on Dartmoor and Shred magazine are running short Track XC racing in the evening. If that doesn't vent enough steam then you can take it out on fellow competitors with a Paintball gun! The usual beer, pasta party, on site camping with showers, feed stations and T-shirt are all included in the entry fee of £25 (£21 if you elect to wimp out and only do the 55k race). the event will again be run on a similar format to 2001and is again not a race and all the prizes will be allocated on a purely random basis. For the evening entertainment there will be live music lined up and also a climbing competition (on one of those rolling walls), pasta party, bar and other things to entertain. There will be more trade stands plus led rides onto Dartmoor (Saturday only), master classes plus short track XC racing on the Saturday evening and a big race party with live music. EVENT TIPS chill out its not a race All those who entered the 2001 event will be sent an entry form as soon as they are available, probably in early December 2001. The maximum number of participants is set at around 1000 which should please the many riders turned away this year when the limit was reached a week prior to the event.
